In Bengaluru I noticed my anxiety increasing, not only from the chaos of the city, but I didn’t have a place to stay in Varkala. No plan and not alot of energy, or desire, to race in the heat searching after a fifteen hour train ride. I had been looking at this hostel online for months and finally decided to book. I felt a huge calm wash over me. I knew it was the right move.
I stepped off the train in Varkala into a wall of humidity. It felt like a big hug. Grabbed a taxi and asked to be dropped at the “Mellow Ladies Hostel”. As the driver pulled up to the hostel a large temple elephant stood directly in front. I took this as a positive sign. I was in alignment.
This is the first hostel I have stayed in, in India. I am quite a private individual so usually have my own room. But it was time to step out my comfort zone. Happy I did! My intuition led me to the right place.
This lovely young lady, Ardra, welcomed me and offered a delicious rose milk “welcome drink” I could drink a gallon of this:) Ardra checked me in, then gave me the tour. 
The energy and the layout of the hostel was beautiful. Well thought out. I am in a four person room. Off season so not many guests. For now, I’m in the room on my own….with A/C. Oh happy days!!! Most times I stay away from AC but not in this heat. Bring it on. It is such a relief knowing tI can take reprieve from the heat when needed, and I am able to sleep at night. It’s a GODSEND!
The hostel has an outdoor restaurant with delicious food, lots of options. The rooms are set up beautifully. Beds are very private with curtains that can be drawn. Little light and a plug in right in the cubbie, along with a good size locker.
It’s well cared for, clean and has everything I need.
I originally booked for five nights, to try it out and see how I felt. After the first night I told Ardra I would like to stay for the month, until I fly home. I was offered an amazing deal for the month. I gratefully accepted.
Mellow Ladies Hostel is my little home for the month of April. It is exactly where I want to be. Peaceful, Cool, perfect walking distance from the beach and other spots I like to go. Perfect accomodation to spend my last days in India!
